“Laugh often and much, win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I appreciate your kind words in regards to Jacques’ passing. I wanted to let you know that he lived a happy healthy life up until his last 3 days. I was diligent in caring for him and after the move to Charleston found another holistic vet. Thank you for all you taught me when he was just a pup. You opened my eyes to a lot of important things about caring for and raising dogs and I know it was a blessing that I met you when I did. Everyone he met said he was a love and so well behaved. His rambunctious puppy nature broke through every once in a while…right up until his last few months. I miss him terribly but wouldn’t trade the memories for anything. Thanks again…for everything.

I bought wyatt a new chew toy today. One of Wyatt’s guilty pleasures is chew toys. He loves them. Instead of just handing it to him I did a heel, stay, back away, place toy on ground, walked back and forth, picked toy up and returned to heel. Wyatt took one step right when toy was placed down. After a quick verbal ‘ach!’ he actually backed himself up half a step and then completed the command. I was very impressed. The toy was a VERY high value reward for him and he wanted it badly. Just thought you might enjoy an email showing how well the training is working for him at home.

I’m recently heard that you’re relocating from the Nyack facility.  That place has a lot of memories for Hailey and is where she obtained her foundation in obedience and agility.  It is the place that inspired me to take up agility which both Hailey and I love. It is also the place that Hailey learned impeccable weaves that can’t be beat!!!
Thank you once again for everything you’ve taught us both.  We’ve come a long way since we first walked into the doors at Nyack People Training For Dogs.  Thank you for everything Nancy.  We appreciate it and wish you luck.

About 8 years ago I decided it was time to add a member to the family: a new dog. Not a rescue, this time. A dog that came without the questions a rescue carries with it; a dog I could nurture from the very first months of its life; a dog to grow old together with.
I grew up with spaniels, and had two in my adult life: an English Springer, and a Cocker. This time, I decided upon a Brittany even though I didn’t know much about them. I figured: “how different can they be?” So, I went to a reputable breeder in upstate NY and got myself a seven week old Brittany. I named her Belle…a nod to the French who developed the breed.
As the days and weeks passed, I fell in love with Belle…and she fell in love with my shoes, pillows, books, pencils, blankets, chairs, etc…anything she could wrap her cute little mouth around. I ran to Barnes and Noble and the first book I grabbed began with the following sentence: “To train a Brittany, the first thing you must do is scrape it off the ceiling.” Great.
I asked around and in each case I was directed to Nancy Strouss and her school PEOPLE TRAINING FOR DOGS. Needless to say, it became our second home.
Understanding the needs of a dog is one thing. Understanding the owner and the interaction between owner and pet is another. This is where Nancy truly excels.
When I watched Nancy work with Belle I was amazed…and, to be honest, a bit jealous. Belle was like a different animal under Nancy’s direction. Sit. Down. Stay. Come. Belle was responding quickly, correctly, effortlessly. Was this the same dog I came in with?
Nancy Strouss is a dog training expert who knows what she’s doing! Animals behave differently with a knowledgeable trainer, and a knowledgeable trainer knows how to impart their knowledge to the pet owner so that pet and owner can enjoy their lives together without incident.
Belle is now 7 1/2 yrs old and she is the best dog in the entire world! Each and every day is the best day and I can’t imagine my life without her in it. I am 100% certain it would be entirely different had Belle and I not had a chance to meet and work with Nancy Strouss and PEOPLE TRAINING FOR DOGS. She helped me help Belle to become the best that she can be.
Thank you, Nancy. You and PEOPLE TRAINING FOR DOGS are simply the best!

On my way home from work this past week I saw a dog running along a busy road near my home. To my horror I realized it was MY dog. He got out because a workman at my house left a gate open. I pulled over to the side of the road, opened the passenger door and yelled a command Riley had been taught to respond to-COME! Riley is a beagle, and hounds are notorious for single minded tracking when on a scent. Due to the training Riley and I received at PTF Dogs, I responded with the right command and he jumped into my car (against his hound instincts) I feel that he could easily have been killed on that road. Thank you People Training For Dogs!!!

Over the course of 20 years we have used People Training For Dogs for our four dogs.  We have found Nancy Strouss be be very good in working with our canines who have presented themselves with various quirks in their personality.  However, we have learned that it is not so much the dog as the person who has the dog and what they need to learn in living with their pet, thus the name People Training for Dogs.  This has been a challenge, but through the training, understanding and patience she has shown, our dogs through the years have become the best of friends.

Most of all, I want you to know how much I appreciate the award you gave my son for “Best Handler”. “I just wanted to thank you for all of the great training you have given Mickey and me. I was thinking about you last night while we were at Jimmy’s mom’s house for a Christmas Eve dinner for about 15 people. Mickey was the hit of the party and he kept getting oooohs and ahhhhs about how good his behavior is. Every single thing he/I did that impressed them was something we learned from YOU, and I thought to myself, I need to thank Nancy tomorrow. You really go above and beyond to work with your students, and your skills as a trainer are truly exceptional. Thank you so much!”
—Britta & “Mickey” from Nyack

“I’m sure you don’t remember us, but my Belgian Tervuren Beau and I took classes with you in Valley Cottage in the mid-90s.  Beau was dog-aggressive, but we had a blast and worked through his nonsense.  As
a 12-year-old, Beau starred in my production of “Annie” that I directed at Suffern High School.  Thanks to his foundation with you, he was able to cross the stage alone under a spotlight, stopping center stage to strike a pose!”  ~ Annie & “Beau” and new pup “Simon” from Florida, NY

I thank you for helping me understand a dogs needs.  My relationship with Sadie gets better every day.  We still have a long way to go, however it has become fun and not a strain.  Your knowledge that you shared with us will be used every day.  Sadie and I both thank you. PS: You’ll hear from me regarding additional training. ~ Ken & “Sadie” from Garnerville, NY
